Written List of Features

This is a written list of the features shown on the previous page. Please consider these points when investing your money in your custom millwork!

Trust

One of the most important things to homeowners, architects, and interior designers today is finding someone they can place their trust and confidence in. This is a very important part of Cabinet Designs and our interaction with our clients. We highly value ANY feedback that will help us improve our business and provide our clients with unmatched service. Our membership in the Cabinet Makers Association http://cabinetmakersassociation.com/ allows us to provide you with the BEST service a custom cabinet company can possibly offer, whether large or small.

Layout & Design Capabilities

Cabinet Designs is able to provide you with detailed drawings of floor plans, elevations, ect. You will want to be able to see & know details such as drawer/drawer opening heights & widths, interior depths, verified openings & locations for appliances, verified locations for rollout shelving, adjustable shelving, drawer banks, ect. Cabinet Designs provides detailed drawings of each set of cabinetry or millwork, as well as samples of selected finishes, trim, ect. to ensure that there are no dis-appointments for our clients.

Box Construction

There are a lot of different ways cabinet boxes are built today. Materials include domestic plywood, import plywood, melamine, particle board, mdf, and others. There are also hundreds of ways cabinet boxes are constructed.

Cabinet Designs uses A-1 grade formaldehyde free domestic birch ply. Advantages include an attractive AND durable interior, as well as long term performance. We choose our interior materials carefully to avoid issues such as de-lamination, warping, etc. that cheaper grades of plywood are known for.

Some cheaper alternatives that Cabinet Designs does NOT use would be particle board of any thickness, MDF, and other less durable products. Cabinet Designs has found that many cheaper import plywood products tend to warp and delaminate, so we avoid using these.

We also carefully choose our box construction methods. #1 is choosing a box construction technique that maximizes the use of space AND durability of the box based on it's intended use. #2, we also take into account efficient use of materials and labor, once again, maximizing the value you receive as our client. Details of all construction techniques as well as comparisons on selection of materials are available.

Drawer Boxes

Once again, there are many choices available, but who can argue the proven performance & craftsmanship of a drawer made of dovetailed 5/8" solid wood sides, with a 1/2" ply bottom, dadoed into the sides. Add either side mount full extension slides (if you want drawer depth) or undermount soft close slides (if you want looks and performance), both of which have a lifetime warranty and a 100 lb. load rating, and you have a drawer that simply can't help but last a lifetime. At this time, Cabinet Designs only offers quality dovetails drawers and full extension slides, either side mount or under mount. As we've told many clients that have wondered if there was more economical option, "all our clients have appreciated the high level of quality in our product AFTER the installation"!

Superior Hardware Selection

Many companies try to chince when it comes to hardware. Look for someone who isn't afraid to tell you what kind of warranty is on the hinges & drawer slides, look for quality in items such as lazy susans, trash pullouts, undersink tray hardware, ect. Many of the best hardware items have cheaper duplicates that may be available for less than 1/2 the price, these usually don't carry much of a warranty either. The cheaper ones simply don't work as smoothly & quiet as the better ones. Our observations of the cheaper hardware has led us to provide only the best. The quality of our hardware is just one more area we continue to receive compliments on when we install projects.

Cabinet Designs does not include the pulls & knobs in the quote, unless the exact hardware is specified. The reason for this is because there is a wide range of choices, for example, you can buy a cup pull anywhere from $1 to more than $25. Finishes, manufacterers, selection, & middlemen all play a part in this.

Superior Cabinet Finish

The best cabinet job in the world can be ruined by a sloppy finish. Many large cabinet manufacterers, such as Omega & WoodMode, supply only finished cabinetry, in part due to the following reasons:

  1. The best finish currently used is a catalyzed conversion varnish. It is not practical to apply this finish under jobsite conditions, for several reasons, which include ventilation, finicky application techniques, ect. Generally what is applied on a jobsite would be a laquer based product. There are good laquer finishes out there of which some are even catalyzed, they just won't perform as well as a catatlyzed conversion varnish. Most area painters DO NOT USE a high grade of finish, even in the higher end homes.
  2. Jobsite conditions are rarely condusive to a great finish. The lighting, ventilation, equipment, and experience of the finisher all play a part in this. It is best to finish the cabinetry under better controlled conditions.
  3. The equipment and materials neccessary to apply a top-of-the-line finish are too cumbersome for painters and handymen to carry around, not to mention more expensive than the average painter is willing to pay for. Cabinet Designs uses the best equipment available today to apply a superior finish for your project.
  4. Let's face it, many onsite painters simply aren't experienced enough to apply a great finish. Once again, there may be an occasional true professional out there, but our experience has proven that they are few and far between. Look for real proof rather than relying someone's word.

You may notice on kitchen cabinetry in homes that aren't that old finish in areas above the range, beside the dishwasher, ect., tend to deteriorate. This is often true even in 1 million plus homes. With proper finish & application this doesn't need to happen.

Cabinet Designs uses a proven finish, a post-catalyzed conversion varnish, that is water-based. This is the best, most durable finish available for use in high use/high moisture areas such as kitchens and baths, yet has been awarded the Greenguard certification by the Greenguard Environmental Institute. This finish has a very low odor, and emits almost no formaldehyde, ensuring you a comfortable and healthy environment. Cabinet Designs is able to provide you with the information you need to ensure that any finished cabinetry from Cabinet Designs will last for years to come.
